ALL ABOUT US
The Myeloma Alberta Support Society provides support, education and promotes awareness, research and advocacy for patients and caregivers (including family and friends) in Edmonton, as well as central and northern Alberta. Support for Edmonton myeloma patients began in 2001 through an informal support group, which provided a forum for patients and caregivers to share experiences and knowledge of treatments and their responses. In 2008, the Myeloma Alberta Support Society was formally established under the Societies Act of Alberta, complete with bylaws and objects. The first Board of Directors was also established to define objectives, action plans, and share responsibilities for attaining broadened results relating to support, education, awareness, research, and advocacy.

ADVOCACY
The Myeloma Alberta Support Society engages in advocacy in several ways. We belong to the National Advocacy Committee with Myeloma Canada whose purpose is to review and respond to the submissions made to various governing bodies regarding new drugs and novel therapies and access to them and other treatments, to ensure Canadians have the right options at the right time in their journeys. We also align with other support groups within Alberta to ensure Albertans have a voice in the changes to local health care and access to clinical trials.
NEWSLETTERS
We put out a newsletter monthly providing notice of upcoming meetings and other events such as webinars or lectures of interest, along with links to recent events that have been recorded. We also endeavor to provide information relevant to myeloma patients such as changes in drug coverage, breakthroughs in treatment, and other topics of note.

VOLUNTEER WITH US
We are 100% volunteer run and are always on the lookout for any extra help we can get. If you have a special, or not-so-special talent, we’d love to hear from you. We’re looking for people to help out with planning our meetings and other special events we organize (such as our annual fun run fundraiser), assistance at the meetings and the other events, board members, tech savvy people, and a variety of of other tasks.
You can decide how much time and effort you have to give, and where you’d be most comfortable helping out. Send us an email at info@multiplemyeloma.ca to start the conversation.
